Stage 1.07 Ry - Virklund

A varied stage featuring numerous lakes and some significant elevation gain.

In Ry, you’ll find a supermarket with a café, a campground, and a train station (with trains to Skanderborg and Silkeborg). After about an hour’s hike, you’ll reach Julsø; before that, you’ll pass the small Birksø. At Julsø, the signage is a bit confusing, with green and red dots and triangles. Beyond the western shore of Julsø, the terrain becomes quite hilly. You have to climb a few hundred meters in elevation, and the landscape is vaguely reminiscent of a German low mountain range. Next come the small Slåensø and the larger Borre Sø, along whose shore you have to walk for quite a while. At the destination, Virklund, there are buses to Silkeborg and Nørre Snede, and there’s also a pizzeria right on Horsensvej.
