In the Black Forest, European Long-Distance Trail 1 (E1) largely follows the "Westweg" from Pforzheim. This beautiful high-altitude trail is marked throughout by the Black Forest Association with a red diamond. At Lake Titisee, the E1 splits: if you choose the slightly longer route, you will cross the Feldberg, Germany’s highest low-mountain peak.
At Feldberg, you leave the Westweg and, starting at Schluchsee, follow the Mittelweg for a short stretch and then the Freiburg-Bodensee Cross-Country Trail to the final section of the E1 before the Swiss border in Konstanz. Along the way, the E1 follows part of the spectacular Schluchtensteig trail.
