Stage description

The starting point, the highest point on the German E1 (1,493 m above sea level), is a treeless area.

The route starts with a steep descent. After passing the Grüblesattel (1,419 m above sea level), you walk some distance past the "Seebuck" hill, then on to the Bismarck Monument and towards the Feldbergbahn mountain station. You lose a further 150 metres in altitude on the way to the Feldberger Hof. You quickly leave the hustle and bustle around the Feldberger Hof behind as you head off along the Köpfleweg. The signpost at the Feldberger Caritas-Haus is a bit misleading. You are allowed to walk across the property and, at the far end, you then come onto the Lachenrütteweg.
You are back in the forest straight away. The view into the Menzenschwander Valley is magnificent. The Wannenbach stream rises at the Hochkopfhütte.

Four kilometres past the Caritas House, you can enjoy views of Schluchsee not just from the Schluchseeblick viewpoint. The view extends across the entire Schluchsee valley. The path continues down to the shores of Schluchsee. From Feldberg, you will have descended a total of 560 metres.

In 2025, the bridge over the Wingfällbach, east of the village of Aha, was closed at the lakeside. However, a diversion along Menzenschwander Straße and Jägersteig was very well signposted. At the "Auerhahn" inn, the route passes a campsite and heads back through woodland.

Just before Schluchsee, you cross the B500 and walk through the village of Schluchsee to the tourist information centre. From there, the route takes a wide detour through the village. Once you have passed several hotel complexes on the edge of the forest, the path winds its way through the woods in a wide arc around the Riesenbühl mountain (1,097 m above sea level).

Four kilometres past Schluchsee, you pass the "Waldhöfen". Between Schluchsee and the Waldhöfen, you are immediately on the Mittelweg (Pforzheim–Waldshut) route. From the Hinterhäuser hill (1,073 m above sea level), the route descends another 300 metres over nine kilometres to the centre of Lenzkirch.
