Starting at the Pforzheim train station, the trail markers change: instead of the St. Andrew’s cross, the red diamond of the Westweg trail now serves as the guide. In Pforzheim, the route initially follows the Nagold River to the Kupferhammer. This is where the three major north-south trails of the Black Forest begin. Beyond the Golden Gate, the Westweg climbs steeply as a mountain trail, passing Hoheneck. Soon after, however, the path descends past gardens back down to Dillweißenstein, where it crosses the Nagold River. Then the route climbs over the railroad tracks and through residential streets until the forest is reached again. In the forest, the trail soon turns right and descends to the Enz. The route then follows a scenic path directly along the Enz for some time. Near the Neuenbürg train station, the trail climbs to Neuenbürg Castle and then descends back into town. In Neuenbürg, too, you must walk uphill through residential neighborhoods before taking a forest road toward Straubenhardt. The village of Straubenhardt is bypassed at the edge of the forest. After the observation tower at Schwanner Warte, you cross a road and then head uphill through more forest toward Dennach. From Dennach, continue through the forest past the Volzemer Stein, a group of rocks, and on to Dobel.
