Stage description
If you plan to stay at the "Hotel 3 Birken" in Birkenau, you should get off the bus at Reisen, at the point between the Birkenau districts of Nieder-Liebersbach and Reisen, and walk along the country road through the valley to Birkenau. The hotel is located right at the entrance to the town. A few meters further on, you can stock up on groceries for the next day at Edeka or Aldi.
If you’d prefer to spend the night in a mountain hut, the “Leonhard-Schenk-Hütte” would be a good choice. It’s located just past the country road near Ober-Liebersbach. The hut has two rooms and is very well maintained. However, it’s also a popular destination for day trips.
