Sauerland

The first section of the E1 in the Sauerland was altered in 2024. It now runs from Marsberg along the Sauerland Forest Route (white W on a green background) via Padberg to Helminghausen on Lake Diemel. The route continues along the Sauerland Forest Route until it meets the Briloner Kammweg (green triangle on a white background) above Bontkirchen. The E1 then follows the Briloner Kammweg via Rothekopf and Hoher Eimberg to Willingen. There, the E1 meets the X16, which it follows initially to Niedersfeld. From Willingen, you are back on the old route of the E1. 

The original route via Schweinsbühl is still passable in principle, but is no longer signposted.
