From Niedermarsberg, the route first climbs to Obermarsberg, home to two Gothic churches worth seeing. It then circles around Kalvarienberg and continues along the slope of the Diemel Valley, offering beautiful views, before finally descending to the Kluskirche. The route then ascends on paved roads to Giershagen. Past Giershagen, there is a longer stretch on the road, followed by a route over the hills past wind turbines to Adorf. Beyond Adorf, the route becomes more scenic again, winding around the Rottenberg and through Benkhausen near the valley floor to Schweinsbühl.
Note: The X16 main hiking trail, which this stage follows, has been discontinued between Marsberg and Willingen and will be removed in 2024. As a result, there are no longer any trail markers on this stage. You can find information about an alternative route here.

Obermarsberg is a district of Marsberg situated on a plateau, which offers some historical sights. The E1 leads past the Drakenhöhlen (Dragon caves), the Buttenturm, the Stiftskirche St. Petrus und Paulus (collegiate church of St. Peter and Paul), the Nikolaikirche, the old town hall with pillory and other, partly medieval buildings. Almost like a little time travel into the past.
