The stage begins just past Siegen with a long climb along mostly wide forest trails up to the Starken Buberg. A sign on the wall of a water treatment plant indicates the distances to Flensburg (1,111 km) and Constance (873 km). After passing under the A 45 (Sauerland Line), you reach Oberschelden. From there, the route follows narrower paths up to the Giebelberg, then descends again to Freusburg. However, the trail does not pass by the castle of the same name, which sits on higher ground, but instead heads down to the Sieg River, which is crossed at the Freusburg Mill. From here, the Westerwaldverein trail markers begin. With views of Kirchen (Sieg), the route continues to Herkersdorf. At the edge of town, the ascent to the Druidenstein—an impressive basalt cone—begins, accompanied by a Way of the Cross. Afterward, the route mostly follows forest trails, mostly downhill, to Herdorf.

Behind the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in Herkersdorf the E1 climbs over a Way of the Cross up to the Druidenstein. This striking basalt rock, about 20 metres high, was formed about 25 million years ago and probably already served the Celts as a place of worship.
