From Dänisch Nienhof, the route first takes you through the woods, then across fields, past a large wind turbine, and on to Stohl. From there, it heads back toward the coast. There, the route continues along the beach. Even though the temptation is great, you should never walk along the top of the cliffs. The risk of falling is too high.
After about 2.5 km, you can climb back up to the now safer cliff edge, which is now forested—a very charming stretch with great views of the sea.
The Kiel Fjord begins at the Bülk Lighthouse, with paved promenades leading all the way to Kiel-Schilksee. From there, the route continues slightly inland along the "Schilksee Hiking Trail." The route is designed so that you don’t even notice you’re near the city, with large neighborhoods like Kiel-Friedrichsort or Altenholz. From the Stekendammsau valley, the trail follows the industrial railway into the forest and continues southward through it. It then passes the Holtenau industrial park on its way to the Kiel Canal.
Take the pedestrian ferry (daily, free of charge) to cross the canal. After a short walk through the city, follow the "Kiellinie" to the Reventlou Bridge - or to your accommodation for the night. In late May or early June, don’t miss the orchid meadow located across from the first marina on the Kiellinie.
