Initially, the E1 continues through the North German lowlands, passing through a landscape characterised by a succession of woods, heathland, fields and pastures. Heading west, the route eventually reaches the Steinhuder Meer, the largest lake in north-west Germany. From here, the route continues southwards, with the foothills of the Hanover Uplands already visible in the distance.
After Bad Nenndorf, the route leaves the lowlands behind for good and climbs up to the Deister hills. Passing through Bad Münder and the Süntel, the E1 eventually reaches Hamelin, the town of the Pied Piper, on the River Weser.
