We take a path near the spring heading south towards the mountain. After climbing uphill through a forest of tall beech trees, we reach a saddle and then pass through the network of green karst fields known as the Fosse. At the junction for M. Motola (about 20 minutes), you can take a detour to the summit, which offers beautiful views. Back at the junction, we continue along the path towards the mountain’s western ridge. The route now descends along the western ridge to the pilgrimage chapel of Monte Vivo.
We take the narrow road that leads downhill from there, turn left at a fork, follow an unpaved track for about 1 km, and then leave it to take a path downhill on the right (heading south), past a well, until we reach another unpaved track. Here we turn left, heading east, to reach the rocky outcrops that conceal the impressive “Gravittone” sinkhole, the entrance to which is marked by a majestic rock arch. After a rest by the sinkhole, we continue along our route and then uphill on a path. We pass the source of the Raccio and finally reach the Sella del Raccio. From the saddle, an unpaved track runs largely alongside the Cerasulo to the Rezzo farmstead, where it meets a tarmac road coming from Monte San Giacomo.
