09.22 San Rufo - Monte Motola

Near the "Acquafredda" farm, take the path towards Cocuzzo delle Puglie and then follow a steeply ascending path branching off to the right to the Acqua Fredda springs.

From the Aquafredda springs, an unpaved path leads uphill, passing through the hamlet of Fossa delle Femmine, then climbing the mountain and finally reaching a cistern. There, the path splits into two circular routes leading to the summit of Cocuzzo. The left-hand route heads south-east, the right-hand route west. Taking the right-hand path, we reach a pass after a few minutes. We turn left and climb along the western ridge to the summit of Cocuzzo, which, with its steep walls, overhangs and pinnacles, offers a view typical of the Dolomites. At the summit, the path joins the other branch coming up from the cistern.

From the pass, you descend the opposite slope along a long, winding path. At the foot of the mountain, you take an unpaved track that leads eastwards to the Sella del Corticato.

We walk a short distance along the tarmac road and then continue along an unpaved track that climbs towards Mount Motola, passing the renovated mountain hut on the way. After negotiating a few hairpin bends and covering a good part of the ascent, we leave this track and take a path on the left that leads through Cozzo dei Palombi and then climbs up to a green plateau called Fontanelle, at the foot of the impressive northern peak of Mount Motola, where the forest hut is situated.
