In Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, the E1 largely follows the Grande Escursione Appenninica (GEA), a 375-kilometre long-distance trail. Please note that, at present, some sections are signposted as the GEA, even though the route deviates from it in places.
In places, however, the route also follows the Sentiero Italia (SI) and the Sentiero di spartiacque appenninico (00).
