Spending the night in the monastery is something special and worth it.

Stage description

In Badia Prataglia, follow the main road to the end of the village and turn right onto a road towards Chiusi della Verna. Follow this road for some time. At a sawmill, turn left and follow a stream for a while; finally, take a steeper path uphill to the Passo dei Mandrioli. Here, turn right and follow the GEA along paved paths and small tracks, mainly through beech forest. The highest point is Poggio Montalto (1,302 m). Continue along paths to Poggio Tre Vescovi. Continue on the GEA towards La Verna. From Passo delle Gualanciole, follow a wide forest road for a long stretch until just before Monte Calvano, where you are treated to a magnificent panoramic view. Then a partly steep descent to Croce della Calla. Continue along wide paths to the Santuario della Verna monastery, where you can stay overnight and dine in the footsteps of St Francis. Continue to Chiusi della Verna.
