Stage description

At the "Foce dei Tre Confini" tri-border area, the E1 leaves Liguria and thus the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. Up to the Passo dei Due Santi, the route runs close to the border between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna.

The route initially followed the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. Beyond the Passo del Lupo, there was a turn-off towards Monte Gottero; those looking for a shorter route can head straight to the Foce dei Tre Confini. The path here runs mainly through beech forests. At the Foce dei Tre Confini, the main AV branches off. After that, the markings are in places considerably poorer, though always adequate.
