Stage description

The trailhead in Porto Ceresio is the train station. From here, the trail is clearly marked as the E1. At first, the trail follows the lake until it climbs steeply through a forest to Borgnana and then continues along a fairly busy road to Cuasso al Monte. At the edge of town, the trail re-enters the forest and continues uphill. If visibility is good, a short detour to the summit of Monte Piambello is well worth it. At the summit, there is also a small shelter that offers protection from the rain and is ideal for a short rest.

The route now heads gently downhill through the "artists' village" of Boarezzo, where many houses are decorated with murals, and on to Ganna. This is where the Campo dei Fiori Nature Park begins.

At first it goes uphill on a steep and very beautiful path until Brinzio.
