02.04 Arquata Scrivia - Castagnola

From Arquata Scrivia, the trail initially climbs steadily along narrow paths; be sure to follow only the E1 markings (and no others). You’ll enjoy some beautiful views along the way. At a signpost, the trail descends toward Sattovalle, staying within the forest at all times. Upon reaching the village, follow the markings up a road. In the village, turn right. The route continues along trails, some of which are steeply uphill. The trail then follows a ridge for a long stretch, offering beautiful views in places, all the way to Monte Alpe (a scenic summit). From here, the route descends to Castagnola.

Alternatively, you can walk directly to Agriturismo La Costa – the stage is then 31 km long with 1,000 meters of elevation gain, and the hike takes about 8 hours.
