Stage description

From San Vito, you start by walking along the road before the trail turns right into the forest. The route continues along beautiful forest paths to the Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sorli, where you can refill your water supply. The trail continues through the forest to Monte Spineto, where you’ll find a beautiful view of the Scrivia Valley. The interior of the pilgrimage church is also worth seeing. This is followed by a short descent to Stazzano, from where you cross an old bridge to reach Serravalle Scrivia.

The E1 route between Serravalle Scrivia and Arquata Scrivia runs along the busy Via Seravalle for several kilometers. There is neither a bike path nor a sidewalk there. Hiking on the road is dangerous! It is recommended to take the local hiking trail in Serravalle that leads up the mountain toward Gavi. It is a bit longer, but safer. The trail is varied, and you’ll be rewarded with a few panoramic views along the way. If you’d rather not, you might opt to take the train between the two towns as a one-time exception.
