Continue along the Pista Altomontana, which we follow as far as the Rifugio Monte Scavo.
From here, there are two options for the rest of the route:
Continue straight ahead along the Pista Altomontana until it “ends” at Filiciusa-Milia. This is the most direct route, taking you up to over 1,900 metres.
This option offers the chance to explore the wildest and most natural part of Mount Etna and boasts stunning panoramic views. To reach this route, follow path no. 710 from the Monte Scavo refuge towards "Monte Egitto". The first section leads through pāhoehoe lava (a few wooden posts mark the way) to Monte Egitto. Here, follow the main path, which leads down to the left past Monte Lepre, Monte Arso and Monte Ruvolo to Piano dei Grilli. You can spend the night at the Rifugio Piano dei Grilli.
Continue towards Monte Minardo, passing numerous ancient craters (trails nos. 708 and 707 – well marked). Behind Monte Albano, a sign points to the right. As the following section has not yet been marked, it is recommended that you turn off here towards Galvarina and, from there, follow the Pista Altomontana again.
The Pista Altomontana ends at the "Filiciusa-Milia" gate.
