Note: The track shown above corresponds to the Vasaloppet route – that is, for cross-country skiers. The Vasaloppsleden trail for hikers in the summer follows a largely different route, at least as far as Mångsbodarna. Both routes are shown on the Swedish maps (minkarte.lantmateriet.se).
From the start of the Wasalau, the trail initially heads uphill through the forest along the wide cross-country ski trail. It crosses a wide forest road and continues along that road past the highest point of the Wasalau (signposted). Then, however, the hiking trail veers off onto a path branching off to the right. This path winds its way through the terrain with quite a few ups and downs and is rarely used. Two forest roads are crossed. After the first shelter – which, incidentally, features the only reference to the E 1 in this entire area – the trail continues on flat ground. After crossing another forest road and a section of the wide cross-country ski trail, the route continues along a forest road to the right and then along the unpaved road to Smågan on the left. There is an overnight shelter in Smågan. Continue clockwise around the lake. A forest path on the left shortens the route along the forest road, and you then reach another shelter in more open terrain. The route then follows paths through marshy areas and, after a short stretch on the wide cross-country ski trail, turns right toward Skärlokskojan.
