From north to south:
From the Vardancohka hut on the lake’s eastern shore, head south. At the start of the small gorge, the trail leads uphill to a ridge. Continue south along small lakes, then follow the reindeer fence for a long stretch on its right side, gradually ascending and enjoying the views.
At the fork in the fence, follow the section branching south, and at the next fork, head east down into the valley (poorly marked there). In the valley, cross the stream—it’s easier north of the fence—then head southeast, slightly uphill past the lake over a ridge, then follow vehicle tracks steeply down into the next valley to the ruins of a Sami hut.
East of the hut ruins, cross another stream and then head south, staying in the valley, where you’ll need to wade through the water between two lakes before following a reindeer fence again to the day’s largest river, the Tverruselva. Follow the fence uphill on its east side, and you’ll soon see the Stohpojohka hut.
This stage is easier and less wet than Stage 3, but it also takes time.
From south to north:
Follow the reindeer fence down to the river and cross it. The trail continues along the left side of the mountain slope, parallel to the fence. You’ll need to navigate a few rocky sections, followed by a relaxing stretch of grass. After that, the trail climbs steeply to the left along an ATV track. You’ll soon reach the next fence, which you follow just below the ridge line until just before Vardancokha. The turnoff from the fence to the left is easy to miss in poor visibility. You’ll walk a short distance along a fairly steep slope above the lake, then you’ll reach the tiny hut.
