Note: Until early 2020, the final leg of the E1 on the Scandinavian Peninsula ended in Varberg. Since then, the ferry to Denmark has been operating from Halmstad.
If you're coming from the south or starting here on the E1 heading north, this is an ideal stage to ease into the hike. However, aside from straight paths on asphalt or gravel, it doesn't offer anything particularly noteworthy.
If you prefer, you can take the bus (Route 669) to shorten the walk. From Varberg: Mon–Sun: 9:40 a.m., 11:40 a.m., 2:20 p.m., 4:20 p.m. The ride to Stationsvägen takes 17 minutes. It takes considerably longer to walk there.
If you take the bus, you can get from Varberg to a shelter (traveling from south to north). If you're walking, the best place to stay the night is at Åkulla Friluftsgard (a cabin for less than €30).
