From Reisadalen, the trail climbs steeply uphill. You should make your first stop at Sarafossen. At the top of the waterfall, there’s even a designated campsite, accessible via a marked detour.
As the elevation increases, the mixed forest gives way to a birch forest until the landscape eventually changes into the familiar shrub steppe. At the Meahccejohka, you’ll have to cross another river, but with a little skill, you can manage it here even without wading shoes.
Hiking along the flank of the Skaidecohkka, you eventually reach the highest point, where, on a clear day, you’ll be treated to fantastic views of Reisadalen, the deeply incised valley of the Coalbmejohka stretching out before you, and the snow-capped mountains in the distance.
Now the trail heads downhill again toward Coalbmejohka and finally to Coalbmejavrrit, where there are excellent camping spots. Coming from Sappen, a well-maintained trail meets the E1 here, which you can follow for quite some time. This makes for particularly fast progress.
It’s not far now to the open Somashytta. First, however, we have to wade across the Rahpesjohka, but then we’ll have reached our destination and completed this long stage.

The E1 follows the Nordkalottruta / Nordkalottleden - except some smaller parts - from Kautokeino (E1 stages 01.16) close to Sulitjelma (E1-Etappen 07.08 / 08.01). The book describes the trail in detail from Kautokeino to Abisko and in shortform to an exit in Sulitjelma.
