04.07 Skoaddejavrehytta - Sitashytta

From the Skoaddejávrehytta, the trail initially continues across the plateau parallel to the Swedish border, though this does not mean the terrain is completely flat. The path winds over several small hills, through a few streams, and across a couple of snowfields. After 6 km, you reach the steep edge of the plateau. You now have a sweeping view of the surrounding mountains and lakes – and down to the road, which lies over 200 meters below you.

The descent ahead is one of the toughest sections in this area, but the trail is well marked. Once you reach the bottom, you’ll be rewarded with 12 km of easy walking along a farm road. Here, too, the route involves some steep ascents and descents as it winds between the three lakes the road runs alongside. Another reward for hikers: on this section, you’ll have cell phone reception for the first time since Abisko, thanks to a clearly visible cell tower on a mountain a bit further away.

After 12 km on the road and crossing the border four times, you finally arrive at Sitashytta, which is idyllically situated on the dammed-up Sijdasjávrre.
