10.02 Forsvik - Mölltorp

An exciting stretch! North of Mölltorp, the trail climbs a hill. Here you can visit the old fortifications (Vabergets fästning), which were built before World War I to protect nearby Karlsborg. But they were never actually used. Today, a few remnants remain to be admired, and anyone with time to spare (though which long-distance hiker really has time...) should take a moment to look around. In any case, don’t miss the observation tower!

So don't take the shortcut around the hill – go over the top instead!

At the end/beginning of the stage, you’ll come across the famous Göta Canal in Forsvik. Here you’ll find not only Café Anna, which serves delicious cake (and holds the key to the STF Hostel), but also the Forsvik Bruk Industrial Museum. Admission is free. You should take some time here to admire the exhibits. Forsvik used to be a small industrial town. The shipping crisis of the 1980s brought activities to a standstill. The Göta Canal has also lost its significance. So today, Forsvik drifts along in its own world and is a popular destination for tourists in the summer.
