The final stage of the Strada Alta follows a similar route to the previous two days, winding southward along the slopes of the Leventina Valley. For the most part, there are no major climbs, with the exception of the descent at the end of the stage. Along the way, there are wonderful views at every turn.
Just past the small village of Segno, it’s worth taking a short detour to the Oratorio di Sant'Ambrogi. Parts of the church date back to the 13th century, and there are wonderful frescoes to admire.
Just past Cavagnago, you get one last glimpse back north toward the Gotthard. Just past Sobrio, there’s a short, somewhat more exposed section. Here, the trail often leads over rocky steps.
Shortly thereafter, the steep descent into the valley begins. The trail winds past steep rock faces and impressive old trees. Once you reach the valley, a bench by a small fountain invites you to take a break before the less scenic final stretch begins. The trail now leads – partly along a main road – into the center of Biasca.
