The E1 trail – still following the Strada Alta – winds through mostly scenic paths through forests, as well as open, scenic landscapes. Along the way, it passes through small villages time and again. The bus (Postauto) usually stops here as well. There are several churches worth seeing along the route that are open to visitors.
Just past Tengia, there’s a waterfall where you can enjoy a wonderful swim. Soon after, the trail descends steadily. In the small village of Calonico, there’s a small shop, though it’s only open daily from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Shortly after Calonico, you’ll cross a park-like area, and a little later, the final, strenuous climb begins along paths that are partly rocky and root-covered. Shortly before the end of the stage, the climb is rewarded with a beautiful, scenic stretch of trail that runs at the same elevation.
